Iroko hardwood
An African tropical hardwood that looks and behaves like teak. Its high quality lets us make wide tabletop segments from one piece of wood. Our suppliers hold their own forest concession, with a clear paper trail to guarantee sustainable sourcing. Also available FSC-certified.
The 3 finishes
- Natural: the wood as it's delivered, untreated.
- Weathered: how untreated Iroko looks after time outdoors. It turns a natural silver-grey.
- Oiled: treated with Extremis Wood Protector, which keeps the warm original color.
Wood is alive
- White spots: Iroko can show small white spots. These are natural calcium deposits the tree takes up from the soil. They don't affect the quality of the wood. Pieces with more than 10 spots per 100 cm² (about 15.5 sq in) are kept out of regular sale.
- First rain: natural tannins can bleed out of the wood for a while after the first rains. They are water-soluble and wash away over time.
- Our wood is delivered untreated, so you choose: let it turn silver-grey, or oil it to keep its color.
- Small cracks can appear and are normal. They often close again when humidity changes.
- Quick test: if a $1 coin doesn't fit in the crack, there's nothing to worry about.
